“I haven’t been as consistent as I need to be! “

Has that statement ever come up in conversation? It definitely has for me. As leaders and high performers our commitment and dedication is high, but sometimes we can lack in consistency. So what do we do about it?

Let’s start by . . . . .

Creating a Routine

Early morning walking is my new reestablished routine– not only is it a form of exercise, self-care, and renewal, it’s also a reminder of the power of consistency when it comes to growth and progress.

There’s something so rejuvenating and transformative about showing up regularly for yourself, your ideas, your goals and your dreams.  Establishing a routine is a structured way for you to align constant action with the goals you’ve set for yourself. Speaking of goals . . .

Set Clear Objectives

I strive to walk at least 6,000 steps per day. Having something to aim for allows me to track and measure my progress. Setting a clear goal helps to maintain and sustain consistency and focus. And it can be fun and exciting. For instance, you can have a competition with yourself. At the end of the day ask 2 questions:  Did I meet or exceed my goal? If I did not, why? The truth is that you have to . . .

Prioritize

To be more consistent you have to prioritize what’s important. As a leader everything feels urgent —- it’s not. Consider using a tool like the Eisenhower Priority Matrix to determine what you need to Do, Schedule, Delegate, or Delete. You get to determine what’s a priority. For me, self care trumps everything because if I’m not healthy mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically, it will be difficult to run a business, manage a team, or support clients at my best. Try making a list, then prioritize what’s highest on the list and start there.

Now that you’ve considered the 3 ideas above as a way to maintain better consistency, let’s change the original statement from “I haven’t been as consistent as I need to be” to “I am consistently meeting my goals, commitments and responsibilities by creating and following a routine, setting clear goals, and prioritizing what’s important for my success.”
