Before we get too far into the year I want to give you an assignment. If you do it, it’ll help set you up for the year you want. Every year I do reflections with my good friend, Loretta. We take a day and we rate our year based on a set of categories. It’s a very involved and enlightening experience that I want to share with you. It’s one of my favorite activities of the year!
Take an opportunity to connect with someone close to you and try it out.
Each year we change the format slightly, but we always maintain the base/foundation.
Here’s how it goes.
Step 1: On a scale of 0- 100, how would you rate your year? Just think of your year, the ups, downs, accomplishments and challenges and score based on what you think.
Step 2: Now you’re going to go through each category and rate each individually on a scale of 1 -100. Here they are:
- Work/Business
- Health & Wellness
- Financial
- Emotional
- Family
- Spirituality
- Relationships
- Recreation/Fun
When you rate each one you may need to come to a mutual decision on how you are rating the category to ensure you’re both on the same page.
Step 3: Go through each category and share why you rated the category the way you did.
Step 4: (Optional): Determine what you need to identify, simplify, improve or sustain. This is an optional step but allows you an opportunity to fully explore each area before you determine your goals.
Step 5: Total your scores and see how close you came to your initial overall score. We like to do this to see how close we were based on the individual scores.
Step 6: Review each score and determine your 3 primary focus areas. Any area that is rated under a 75 should be considered a priority area.
Step 7: Set your goal for each priority area. You can also go back to Step 4 to help you hone in on your goal.
That’s it. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to try it out. One way to perform at our highest is to review and assess where we are in order to make improvements.
